TAMA – On Monday, STC Softball played Vinton-Shellsburg at home over two games. The Vikettes won both encounters, winning 14-2 and 15-1 respectively against the Trojans.

Coming off both games, the Trojans record sits at 0-14 as they still look to find a leg to stand on. The high level of competition along with low numbers for the team has left a hard path for the Trojans to brave.

In spite of often being outnumbered by opposing teams participants, the team has stuck to the basics and continued to work hard to play at a higher level. After the first game, head coach Lon Wilkerson talked briefly about the challenges facing the team.

“We’re still looking for consistency, we play well at times and other times we don’t. We’re getting better,” she said. “I knew Vinton would be tough, every team in the WaMac is tough.”

Wilkerson also highlighted some top players in game one of two.

“Millie Mathes-Henle, our shortstop on defense. Kailee Keen started our rally for us. Taylor Johannsen and Madison Wiese scored the only runs in the first game,” Wilkerson said.

The Trojans’ next home game is Monday, June 19 at 5:30 against West Delaware.
