NEVADA — STC’s girls tennis team notched their first team victory of the year on Monday, Aug. 24, when they traveled to Nevada and beat the Cubs, 5-4.

After senior Mady Boriskey fell to Nevada’s Grace Hensley in the #1 singles spot, the Trojans picked up victories at #2 and #3 singles. Junior Ava Boldt (#2) grabbed an 8-4 victory over Chloe Moffitt, while junior Presley Vest (#3) won 8-6 over Bella Betting. STC also picked up a victory in #5 singles when sophomore Kendra Svacina beat the Cubs’ MaryAnne Thomas.

When senior Grace Gomez (#4) and junior Amanda Bullshoe (#6) dropped their singles matches, the Trojans headed into doubles play with a 3-3 tie overall. Whoever won two of the three doubles matches would secure the victory for their team. STC picked up the wins when Boriskey and Boldt (#1, 10-6) and Svacina and freshman Bralynn Rohrs (#3, 8-6) both secured victories and gave the Trojans their first dual meet win of the season.

Next up for STC (1-5) will be a home dual meet against Ballard on Wednesday, Sept. 9. That will be followed by another home dual meet the next night, Thursday, Sept. 10, against Marion.
