The 2026 STC volleyball team debuted on Friday, Aug. 21, when they held their ‘Gator Bowl’ scrimmage against visiting West Marshall.
Head coach Emily Chyma led her squad before a nice crowd who gathered to see their first glimpse of the promising squad. For admission on the night, the crowd was asked to donate a sports drink to be used by the athletes this season.
Following the “Gator Bowl,” the girls volleyball team also traveled to Belle Plaine on Saturday, Aug. 22, to compete against several area schools in more pre-season scrimmages.
The Trojans will be led this season by three athletes who earned first and second team all-WaMaC honors last season: senior Paisley Bro (1st), and juniors Maylee Rucker (2nd) and Stella Zmolek (2nd). They also return players with a wealth of experience, including: seniors Mady Boriskey, Desiray Popelka, and Taylor Dolezal; and juniors Keinzle Boriskey, Brylee Nelson Sydney Arp, Shelby Johannsen, Scout Ridout, and Layla Pansegrau.
STC’s opening match on the season was on Thursday, Aug. 27, when they hosted Gilbert. Following that contest, the Trojans will travel to Grinnell on Saturday, Aug. 29, to participate in the Grinnell Invite. Their next home match will be on Tuesday, Sept. 22, when they will once again face Grinnell.
