Bridgewater steps up to bat as STC head baseball coach

When thinking of STC Baseball, the first name that comes to mind has to be Seth Koch. The longtime staff member and baseball coach has stepped away from his post and handed the reins off to last year’s assistant coach, Jerrod Bridgewater.

“First off it’s an honor, Seth devoted a lot of time, energy, and time away from his family for a lot of years and the program benefited a lot from his knowledge and work ethic. I’m honored and privileged,” Bridgewater said.

Bridgewater brings a wealth of baseball knowledge and coaching experience with him into his new role. In talking about his relationship to the sport, Bridgewater described baseball as one of his first loves and remembers watching it all of his life.

Top returners and newcomers

Coach Bridgewater outlined some players to look for this season. Coach described Nolan Upah as a “consistent kid” and is one of the four seniors on the team. Gavin Bridgewater was mentioned for his athleticism, leadership, and experience in high pressure situations. Daniel Wiess was mentioned for his outstanding natural leadership.

Bridgewater also mentioned Tyrus Clegg and Kyan McBride as solid members of the roster.

The baseball and softball teams have the option of pulling up eighth graders to play at the high school level. This year, Michael Henry and Emerson Bridgewater have been pulled up to the high school ranks.

“I think they are physically ready for the competition, they’re capable, we just need to get them comfortable and confident,” Coach Bridgewater said.

STC Baseball looks to gain momentum as the season rolls on.
