STC boys take home silver at East Marshall

The South Tama County boys finished in second place at the East Marshall Early Bird Co-Ed track and field meet last Friday, trailing only Dike-New Hartford.

The Trojans crowned four event champions on the track: Kyler Smith won the 100 (12.07), Gavin Bridgewater took the 200 (23.89) ahead of Smith (24.08), Trusten Rosenberger claimed the 400 crown (53.76) and Tommy Tyynismaa earned first in the 800 (2:03.04).

Rosenberger was also second in the 400 hurdles, while the Trojans’ 4×200 and 4×800 relay teams both scored silver.

South Tama’s girls team meanwhile was led by JoJo Tyynismaa, who won both hurdle events. She took the 100 hurdles in 15.61 seconds and the 400 hurdles in 1:06.97.

Ashlynn Kriegel came in second in the discus, while third-place finishes came from Kayla Heck in the 800, Emma Harwick in the high jump and Kortney Babinat in the shot put.

STC’s 4×100 weight person relay of Babinat, Kriegel, Taylor Slifer and Zoey Zmolek earned second in a time of 1:06.43.

South Tama girls took sixth place out of a field of seven teams, scoring 63 points. The overall winner of the girls team race was Dike-New Hartford who scored 160 team points, well ahead of runner-up BCLUW.

The teams will next be in action on Monday at the Norwalk Co-Ed Meet.
