South Tama senior basketball stand-out Osceola Tyon will be capping off his high school basketball career as a member of two different all-star teams that are slated to play in the coming weeks.

Tyon returned to South Tama for his senior season after playing two years with the Meskwaki Warriors. In a truncated senior campaign Tyon averaged 17.3 points per game with four rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals on average. The offensive output was the most by a South Tama boys player since Keith Keahna finished his senior year with a 17.5 points per game average.

Tyon played Thursday as part of the WaMaC Senior All-Star Shootout at Benton Community High School.

He joined the WaMaC Cedar team along with Blake DeMoss, West Delaware; Kanon Tupa, CP-U; Daniel Brock, Independence; Gabe Hansen, CP-U and Michael Kascel, Independence.

The Cedar team was coached by Pete Messerli and his staff from Marion.

The opposing WaMaC Wapsi Team was made up of Aiden Harris, Benton; Will DeSmet, Williamsburg; Kyle Schrepfer, CC-A; Ben Swails, CC-A; Kaden Kingsbury, Vinton-Shellsburg and Isaac Cretin, Benton. The coach for the Wapsi squad was Brad Knoop and his staff from Williamsburg.

Next month Tyon will travel to Rapid City, S.D. to compete in the annual Lakota All-Star basketball game.

The all-star teams are made up of 50 boys and girls high school student-athletes from South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Iowa, Kansas, Texas and Louisiana.

Also from Tama County, Meskwaki’s Wakinyela Bear will be playing on the girls Lakota All-Star squad. Bear averaged 17.9 points per game for the Warriors this past season to go along with 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game on offense and 3.9 steals per contest on defense.

The two area hoopers will take the court on April 23 at The Monument Summit Arena in Rapid City.
