Billionaires and the presidential race
Letter to the Editor:
Myth #1 Congress represents the will of the people.
President Obama said it best – Congress is paralyzed. However, paralysis is common because politicians are indebted folks. Ted Cruz received what is possibly the largest donation ever of 15 million from the fracking billionaires, Farris and Dan Wilks. His connection to them and to Texas oil billionaires, the Koch brothers, gives Texas’s big oil a direct “pipeline” to the White House just as was the case with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Ethanol and wind power are most likely not on his billionaire benefactors’ agenda. It’s difficult to know what else they support. It is known that the Kochs do not support Medicare or Social Security, but again, what else the Wilks and the Kochs expect from Cruz is not clear.
Hillary Clinton’s biggest benefactor so far is billionaire financier George Sohos who contributed 3 million to her campaign. He is liberal-leaning so it can be assumed that he would support more of the Democratic policies except, of course, those that might not be beneficial to billionaires.
However, the myth that must be corrected is that Iowa supported Cruz and Clinton. Iowans actually supported Wilks and Sohos. For those who question the accuracy of this observation, note that both Cruz and Clinton voted against the reforms which would have reined in the power of Wall Street and the big banks’ greedy ability to lead us into another recession, costing people their jobs, their homes, and their savings. By this vote, both politicians have shown they comply with the desires of their billionaire benefactors.
Bernie Sanders supporters are several million who contribute around $30. He, too, is owned. He is owned by the people.
