Events buildi community spirit

Letter to the Editor:

On Friday, October 23rd the City of Tama, and the Tama/ Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce teamed up to create an evening of fun and free events for our communities. The Trick or Treat Trail, which is sponsored by the Tama/ Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce, featured nearly 20 local businesses that provided fun, games and lots of treats for over 250 kids in attendance. When the weather didn’t cooperate, the Tama Fire Department and EMS moved their vehicles with out complaint, and allowed the event to be brought inside the fire station for all to enjoy.

When the Trick or Treat Trail came to an end, the line formed for the Haunted Hayride which is put on by an all volunteer crew made up of City of Tama employees, and community members from Tama, Toledo and surrounding towns. Volunteers drove hayrack haulers, monitored racks, and provided the spooks and scares all around the lake. This was the Hayride’s 3rd year, and it consistently draws a crowd of over 500 people.

If that wasn’t enough, there was a chili supper provided by the Tama County Humane Society which was a free will donation, and Popcorn and Hot chocolate for sale by the STC Cross county Team who donated half of the profits they made that evening back to the Rec Trail.

All in all it was a fantastic evening of fun events for everyone, and something that a family could attend with out breaking the bank. I want to thank everyone who lent a hand to make a very fun and successful evening come together. These things don’t happen with out a great group of volunteers and Businesses who are willing to donate their time and talent, and work with each other. We don’t do it for a profit, we do it to build community spirit and show that we are proud of what we have to offer.

So please consider getting involved in something- join a Civic Organization, make your voice heard by taking a seat on a board, coach a kids rec team, or even just offer to haul a table or move equipment at an event. Everything counts, everything matters. Your participation will only make us a stronger and better community!
