Appreicates Tama Council’s weapons decision
Dear Mr Editor,
I just wanted to commend the Tama City Council, or at the very least those that were present at the November 3rd meeting. I was so impressed with their attentiveness and respect to each citizen’s opinion and viewpoints. It made me respect them even more. I imagine being a council member is a thankless job in many ways so I hope this brief letter might be an encouragement to them. I hope they continue to have the willingness and opportunity to lead Tama. I commend them for listening with open ears and open minds and then being sensitive to the citizens when we felt our rights were being infringed. I think that is a rare and admirable quality in leaders. I don’t think for one minute that their intent was to ever encroach on anyone’s second amendment rights, but I think that their original desires were honorable and they were just hoping to make Tama a better and safer place. I hope everyone gives them credit for that and no one holds their efforts to better Tama against them. I think they ought to be commended for being willing to examine their own idea to see if it did in fact cross the line of constitutional rights, and then be willing to drop the issue after an open discussion about it. That’s the kind of people I respect and hope will continue to be willing to lead. Some people may be thinking “Shame on you”, but I think a hearty “Keep up the good work” is in order. They offered an idea, it was discussed and then passed up, –that’s it, and it is hard to fault people who are doing their best, willing to listen and actively seeking for the betterment of the city.
