Ridout paces STC at WaMaC Indoor

GRINNELL — The STC girls Track and Field squad traveled to Grinnell college on Tuesday, March 25 for the annual WaMaC conference indoor meet. Freshman Scout Ridout led the way for the Trojans, earning a top-5 individual performance and running on two top-10 relay teams.

Ridout finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.14. It was her second top-5 finish in the event in the short indoor season. She also finished fourth earlier in the season at the Wartburg indoor meet.

In the Distance Medley relay, Ridout ran the leadoff 200 meter leg on the team that finished 10th with a time of 5:19. Joining Ridout were freshman Shelby Johannsen, junior Madeline Paxton, and sophomore Livia Smith. Ridout also led off the 4×400 team that included freshman Sydney Arp, freshman Maylee Rucker, and sophomore Mady Boriskey. The quartet finished in 7th place with a time of 4:35.

Other highlights in the running events included a 10th place finish in the 4×200 from a team that featured four freshmen. The group included Brylee Nelson, Arp, Java Gomez, and Rucker. The team finished with a season-best time of 1:56. Another freshman, Cahysia Kapayou, finished 19th in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 30.40.

Several Trojans also performed well in the WAMAC conference field events. Leading the way was junior Autumn Elsbury and sophomore Ioleta Kingbird in the shot put. Elsbury finished 14th with a throw of 28 feet, 6.50 inches. Kingbird secured 20th place with a toss of 25 feet, 11 inches.

In the high jump, Rucker, Smith, and sophomore Paisley Bro all completed a jump of 4-2. With tie-breakers, Rucker finished in 13th place, Smith 15th, and Bro 17th.

In the long jump, STC finished with three top-15 finishes with Arp (12th, 14-9), Boriskey (13th, 14-7.50), and sophomore Alexis Thiessen (15th, 13-11).

The next competition for the girls track and field team will be the STC Early Bird meet on Tuesday night, April 8 at the STC high school track. This represents one of two opportunities to see the team at home — the next one being the Trojan Relays on April 29.
