The Meskwaki Settlement School’s cross country program had a strong showing at the STC Co-Ed Meet on Monday, Sept. 14. Both the girls and boys teams took 4th place, while each secured an individual top-10 finish.

The girls were led by returning state qualifier, sophomore Bree Scabbyrobe. Scabbyrobe finished in 8th place for the Warriors, running a season’s best time of 22:35. Also finishing for MSS was: senior Dorothy Bear (13th; 24:06), freshman Jaslynn Hill (14th; 24:07), freshman Jayla Keahna (26:36), sophomore Martha Blackcloud (30:05), and junior Kaelonna Kahler (31:27). The girls finished in fourth place as a team with 95 points. West Marshall (18) won the meet, followed by North Tama (77), and East Marshall (85).

For the MSS boys, freshman Jesse Bear finished in 7th place with a personal-best time of 19:21. Bear was the highest placing freshman in the race. Junior Jaymison Hill (15th, 20:14), junior Jarvis Bear (17th, 20:47), freshman Ryson Davenport (22:10), sophomore Roman Tricky (24:02), and junior Hepa Azure (24:26) also competed for the Warriors. The boys team finished in fourth place with a score of 103 points. Grinnell (35) won the meet, followed by South Tama County (75), and East Marshall (90).

Up next for the Warrior runners is the Belle Plaine Invite on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Following that, they will travel to Williamsburg for the Williamsburg Invite on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
