The STC volleyball team had a busy stretch of games last week, playing eight matches in three days. When all was said and done, the Trojans finished 6-2 in two nearby tournaments.

On Thursday, Sept. 3, STC traveled to State Center and competed at the West Marshall Invite. The Trojans had a perfect showing, winning all three matches, 2-0. Their evening started with a victory over Boone, 21-13 and 21-14. In their second match, STC defeated host West Marshall (21-7, 22-20), and to close the tournament, the Trojans took down PCM (21-9, 21-17).

Following their impressive performance in State Center, the Trojans made the short drive to Conrad two days later to compete in the BCLUW Tournament on Saturday, September 5. STC started the day dropping their first two matches — against Class 1A #11 ranked BCLUW and against fellow-WaMaC opponent Benton. However, the Trojans bounced back to win their next three matches on the day. After dropping the first game to Montezuma, 21-15, STC won the next two, 21-13 and 15-5, to best the Bravettes. The Trojans then swept both Belle Plaine (21-15, 21-15) and Iowa Falls Alden (21-12, 21-17) to win both matches.

After the full 72-hour stretch, head coach Emily Chyma and her squad have started the season with a record of 9-5. The Trojans will travel to Eldora on Saturday, Sept. 12, to participate in the South Hardin Tournament. This will be followed by a WaMaC matchup on the road against Williamsburg on Tuesday, September 15. STC’s next home match will be on Tuesday, Sept. 22, against Grinnell.
