Dear Editor:

I’m writing to advocate for the children in our community, specifically for the needs of the South Tama Middle school students due to the deteriorating building. There’s work to be done to enhance student safety and security while providing for more flexible and dynamic learning spaces.

I grew up in Tama and chose to move home to raise my family. I am proud to call Tama home. I’m looking forward to a middle school building our community can be proud of; where students can effectively learn and feel comfortable.

The district and Board of Education are working to engage the community in a conversation so that they can effectively plan for the future. This has included a community survey, the creation of a facilities committee, a community breakfast and numerous formal and informal meetings to address the middle school’s needs. They are seeking a solution that will balance the needs of our district and taxpayers.

The community has a great opportunity to make their voice heard regarding the future direction of our local school district. I encourage my fellow district residents to take part in this important process.
