A moment of silence: This week’s Tama City Council meeting

This week’s Tama City Council started with a solemn moment of silence for Tama K9 Police Officer Creed, who was humanely laid to rest after battling a serious illness.

The council started knocking off agenda items by approving the CMAR contract with Miron Construction for the Library.

Next up, the council awarded the State Street Culvert project to Boomerang after accepting their bid of $2 million.

The council approved making Ruth Hildahl the new EMS Administrator. Hildahl has been working as interim administrator since May first. The council approved Hildahl’s wage at $63,000 and to backdate the pay to May 1, when she became the interim.

It was approved to advertise to hire two part-time workers or one full time worker for EMS with wage based on experience.

Pending volunteer approval, Linda Beltz, Aaron Haughey, and Dan Hlas were approved to join Tama EMS.

It was approved to move forward with the surveying of the property behind the Tama Shop, as there is a buyer interested in the property with the possibility of putting storage units on the land.

Three bids were received for the removal of 1306 Harding St., and it was approved to go with the lowest bid of Doyles for $10,500.

Water and Wastewater CEU training was approved for the employees who attend it every year.

The Tama Police Department’s 2020 Tahoe, which has electrical issues and a water pump problem, was approved for sale as is, and 5.25 hours of vacation were paid out to Officer Logan Andrews.

It was approved to advertise to sell a property on John Street. A public hearing for the sale of public property was set for Wednesday the 24th.

City wages were approved. Brian Hanus and Kevin Thomas were appointed to the Board of Adjustment.

The Tama Police Department reported that they will be conducting interviews and tests for a few applicants. The Library reported that a slew of summer stuff is happening from story time to summer reading. They are gearing up for Assistant Director Interviews. It was also mentioned that numbers have doubled for in house library usage.

Tama EMS talked about going to a job fair. The Fire Department reported having a good turn out for the truck pull over the weekend. The clerk reported working on things and will be going to a training.
