So, you finally get to go on that vacation: sunshine, fun, and no work, but what do you do with the dog? Henry’s Boarding Lodge, just south of Tama, is now open to all fluffy four-legged citizens in need of a hotel stay.

Patrick Henry, 58, is the owner and operator of the establishment. Henry isn’t new to canines, as he’s raised Maltese and Morkie puppies for the past 25 years. When it came to opening the lodge, Henry saw it as a natural next step, as he saw a need in the community.

“After doing some research, there appeared to be a need for boarding services in our community. With my years of experience raising dogs, my availability of being home, and the need for boarding services in the community, it made sense to expand into offering dog boarding services,” he said.

The lodge opened not too long ago, as they completed the facility and got their state licensing in March. The facility has two rooms for the pooches, one for larger pups and one for the smaller ones, and each room has eight spaces for the boarders. This also leaves room in the facility for expansion, so as the business grows, there will be plenty of room to accommodate those dogs in need. The facility is also heated and air-conditioned, and currently has two outside exercise and play areas for the lodgers. The prices are $30 a night for the first dog and $24 for each additional dog if they use the same lodging space.

“We have had a great response from the community since we opened in the middle of March,” Henry said.

Henry’s Boarding Lodge fills a need for the community, keeping your fur babies safe and comfortable while you’re out of town.
