South Tama enrollment up 56 students – more aid is sought for added numbers

South Tama School Superintendent Kerri Nelson, told school board members the district’s official enrollment increased by 56.5 students at their regular meeting on Monday night
As a result, the Board may request $360,809 on time funding modified supplemental amount for increasing enrollment from SBRC.
This request was previously named modified allowable growth for increasing enrollment. Nelson recommended the board approve this request and board members agreed and voted to approve the request.
The district may submit excess cost for fiscal year 2014 to SBRC for the limited English proficiency program in the amount of $67,154. Board members voted to approve this request.
Nelson told board members there are 49 limited English proficient students that have received instruction beyond five years. As a result, the Board may request modified supplemental amount for limited English proficient instruction beyond five years in the amount of $68,841. This request was previously named modified allowable growth for limited English proficient. Board members agreed to the request.
Personnel
Contracts approved were for Berleen Wobeter as .5 FTE Family and Consumer Science instructor, effective Oct. 20, at a salary of $13,706 pro-rated based on starting date; Shelly Lacina, bus monitor for three hours daily, at $12.05 hourly; Sandy Russell, elementary kitchen, $11.95 per hour; Alison Kinnison, bus driver, $26.47 (probationary rate); volunteer coaches include Travis Smith and Baron Davis for high school wrestling and Rick Hopper for middle school boys basketball.
Contracts terminated are Alma Pesina, elementary special education aide and Barbretta Crain, bus barn secretary.
Resignations were from Kacee Adams, special education aide in the elementary and Eugenia Castanon as High School special education aide.
The board also discussed a 21st Century Learning Center grant proposal and Facility Planning for the future.
