2N2: Focus and Goal: Student driving safety $ for STC Schools

“2 eyes on the road, 2 hands on the wheel” is the message for teens in a safe driving campaign being prepared for here under the guidance and support of State Farm Insurance agent Adam Andersen in Toledo. State Farm will channel $3.5 million to schools across the U.S. he said last week.
South Tama High School can become eligible for $25,000 award in the Celebrate My Drive program. Andersen says this can happen here – five schools in Iowa won $25,000 each last year. The national contest is divided equally between high schools having 750 and more or fewer students.
The contest is simple- at the website www.celebratemydrive.com, entrants enter their email address and indicate they vote for South Tama each day over the Oct. 15-24 contest period. You can vote once each day for each legitimate email address you have.
Andersen is quick to point out the program’s focus is on emphasizing safety for young drivers through a fun way, “not scare tactics.”
Andersen has formed a group of community members to help promote the program and South Tama school staff and students have also joined in. He has purchased t-shirts and banners to help bolster it and get kids to get in the spirit of it.

One of these safe driving features will be an Iowa State Patrol simulator set up at the STC Homecoming football game on Sept. 26.
Other events are in the planning stages.
Winners of the school awards will be announced in December.
The overall high school winners nation-wide will receive $100,00 grant and a grand prize live concert by The Band Perry.
Interested persons who might like to serve on the committee are invited to meet with the group on Fridays at noon at the State Farm Insurance Office, 101 S. County Road, or call 641-484-3163 for more information.
