WHAT: Tama County STEM Festival for all students grades preschool – 6th their and their families – FREE

Sarah Doyle Pratt, now the Butter Cow sculptor at the Iowa State Fair, will return to her home roots as one of the featured presenter at the Tama County STEM Festival at the North Tama Schools in Traer on Sunday, March 30, from 1-4 p.m.

Students from preschool – 6th grade from all Tama County schools (South Tama, Meskwaki Settlement, GMG, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, North Tama, Union and Belle Plaine) and their families are invited to take part in the free event.

Pratt, the daughter of Tom and Mary Doyle, Toledo, and a 1995 South Tama High School graduate, is scheduled to present “A Brief History of the Butter Cow” at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.

She will tell of sculpting process from sketching to finished butter cow. Children will have the opportunity to sketch and build their own wire armature or framework for the butter cow.

Pratt, a school teacher herself, will join more than 40 exhibitors at what is promised to be even “bigger and better” than last year’s STEM event.

There are hands-on activities in Science – Technology – Engineering – Math.

The organizers say “The goal of the festival is to bring STEM to life.

“Experienced scientists, engineers, teachers, and education experts will come to North Tama to provide quick, hands-on and outstanding educational activities and exhibits for the students and families. During this event, children and their families learn that these fields of study are fun, exciting and offer many rewarding opportunities.”
