Voters in the South Tama County School District will decide on Tuesday, Sept. 10, whether a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) is renewed for 10 years, choose District I and 4 school board members and vote on the Iowa Valley Director District 6 position.

Polls will be open from noon- 8 p.m. in Tama, Toledo, Chelsea, Montour and the Sac and Fox Tribal Center on the Meskwaki Settlement.

The PPEL levy is currently assessed at $1.34 per $1,000 property valuation and this rate would continue for the 10-year period according to Mary Boege, STC business manager. The renewal period begins next year, if approved.

The levy funds can pay for school building and grounds improvements and upkeep, purchase or rental of buildings, purchase of transportation equipment and energy conservation measures.

A simple majority is required for passage.

STC School Board

Michele Yuska, Toledo, South District 1 board member, is seeking reelection to a to a third, four-year term. She is unopposed.

There are no candidates on the ballot for the STC District 4 position. Incumbent board member Ron Hala, rural Toledo, did not file nomination papers. As a result, the post will be determined by write-in.

Voters district-wide cast ballots for all school board posts. A director must live within boundaries of the district elected to represent.

Iowa Valley Board

Yvonne Mallory, rural Toledo, is unopposed in seeking a fifth, four-year term as District 6 director on the Iowa Valley Community College Board. District 6 includes all of the South Tama School District, the Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom School District and a portion of the Grinnell-Newberg School District.

She is unopposed.
