South Tama hosted Clear Creek Amana for a Wamac west conference contest Thursday, September 3.

The Clippers were ranked 9th in Class 4A heading into the competition.

The two Wamac teams had already met once this season at a tournament held August 29. The Trojans stole one from the Clippers for a 2-1 finish.

“I think this should really open up our communities’ eyes and instead of saying it’s the Wamac, we will be like South Tama deserves to be here and we can show up in this conference. I hope this game and the fact that we beat them once in a tournament changes the whole community’s eyes,” Sam Cantonwine, head coach said.

Cantonwine shared the team really focused on confidence going into the evening.

“That was our big focus. Be confident and swing away,” said Cantonwine.

The evening resulted in a sweep for the Clippers but the Trojans were at their heels all night.

Set finals were 25-20, 25-18 and 25-12.

Stat leaders for the Trojans included Laurel Upah with 19 assists, Gracie Vest with three kills and Gwen Upah in serving. She had one ace.

The Trojans travel to Benton (3-7) Tuesday, September 15.
