Just ramblin’ today

John Sheda

Remember Nat King Cole’s song, Ramblin’ Rose? Today, it’s Ramblin’ John. First off, a poignant question for you; do you know who Maewyn Succat is? Any idea whatsoever? I’ll let you know

Later. Let’s get started on the rambling:

On Facebook, I asked my friends to close their eyes, click their heels and say, “it won’t snow; it won’t snow.” But it did. To the tune of about ten inches or snow here in Independence. So, who didn’t click their heels? And several of you actually wanted the snow!!! Gadzooks, man!! It’s March! No more snow, ok???

Capital letter KUDOS to Iowa State for winning their conference tournament and garnishing a #5 seed in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. They play Friday night, I think and I’m fully expecting the Cyclones to meet the Kansas J-Hawks in the Sweet Sixteen matchup in a couple of weeks. What a game that would be. Then the Elite Eight….Final Four and the Championship Game. Could it be??

Small letter kudos to the Hawkeyes for receiving a #1 seed in the NIT tournament. They played South Dakota last Wednesday. Just think of this miracle-Iowa State wins the NCAA tournament and Iowa wins the NIT. Anything’s possible, right????? Good luck to both teams

My oldest daughter, Sarah, turned forty this past week. Forty? How is that possible? Deb and I are only in our early fifties!!! I think I’m gonna ground her for getting that old.

We’re just a couple of weeks away from the annual Pet Peeve’s column. I have so many that it may have to become a monthly column. It seems the older I get, the more things upset me. So they go in my ledger of pet peeves. I wonder if wearing socks with sandals will still be #1 Pet Peeve? Let me know what some of yours are.

Spring begins next Monday, March 20th. I guess Mother Nature didn’t check her calendar. I may have to have her click her heels next year.

Deb and I are heading to Seattle to spend some time with Sarah, (the one that turned 40), and her husband. I’ve gotta check her birth certificate to verify her birth date!!

And finally, who is Maewyn Succat anyway? For those that didn’t Google it, he is none other than St. Patrick. Maewyn was born in 386 AD and very possibly born in England, which would, ah, er, not make him Irish but English. But I certainly am not going to tell anyone. Don’t you either. Could upset those good folk from Ireland. Have fun celebrating St Paddy’s Day and by the way, Deb and are available for a home made, (yours), supper or corned beef and cabbage. We shall be waiting anxiously by the phone.

That’s The Way I See Things. Let me know how you see it at jsheda@indytel.com or call me at 319.327.4640. Share your pet peeves with me. Have a great week.
