Tama man charged with vandalizing Sandhill Auto Salvage

Local man Christian Ramirez-Zepeda, 19, was arrested by the Tama County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, Aug. 18, and charged with first degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony.

Ramirez-Zepeda was charged with a crime allegedly committed back on the weekend of April 19. According to a criminal complaint, Christian drove himself and three juveniles to Sandhill Auto Salvage south of Tama, parking off of a service road, the group hid their vehicle so it could not be seen from the highway.

Ramirez-Zepeda and the three juveniles then allegedly went on to Sandhill’s property without permission, roamed the lot and broke and destroyed windshields, car windows, and various car parts. The Tama County Sheriff’s Department matched shoe prints found at the scene of the crime to Ramirez-Zepeda and the juveniles. An estimated $12,745 worth of damage was done.

Attorney Scott Hunter of the Marshalltown Public Defender’s Office made an appearance on Ramirez-Zepeda’s behalf on Tuesday. A trial date has not yet been set.
