The most interesting item on this week’s Tama City Council agenda was the resignation of Tama Police Chief Jason Bina. This agenda item was approved with little comment and discussion.

The meeting started with some Tama County Emergency Management’s Ryan Goodenbour talking to the council about some plans and bylaws.

Next up was the Oak Hill Cemetery Association; they started by reporting on the work that has been done on the statues. The association then went on to receive permission from the council to put up a map and section markers in the cemetery.

The council discussed former Police Officer Logan Andrews, who is now a Marshall County deputy, paying off his Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) contract. According to the city’s lawyers, Andrews owes the city $4,132.93. Andrews’ father was at the meeting as a representative of his son and disputed the amount his son owed the city, along with a few other points of contention. In the end, the council approved the lawyer’s approved number, which Andrews has 30 days to pay back. Andrews may be in touch with the council to set up a payment plan.

It was approved for Crystal Cremeans to use her vacation hours early for a preplanned vacation.

A three-year generator maintenance contract for water and sewer was approved. The Wending Quarries invoice for the rock on Business 30 and L Avenue was approved.

The Labor Day Meeting was changed from Sept. 7 to the 14th. Supplemental pay in the amount of $800 for the interim Police Chief was approved.

The Mayor put together a committee to work on improving the Lincoln Highway Bridge. A three-year contract with Aladtec was approved.

The Fire Department reported having inspections done and having a few air packs and bottles needing to be replaced. They also have another truck and tractor pull on Sept. 11.

The public works department director, Stuart Eisentrager, told a story about “the biggest beaver I’d ever seen” that got into an area and chewed up some wires and died. The Police Department got the Tahoe back.
