On Thursday, July 4 Tama-Toledo joined in and celebrated America’s 248th Independence Day!

Around town, you could find residents of Tama launching off fireworks from their properties, Toledo residents did the same however fireworks are illegal. Nothing, including the law, stopped the displays of patriotism around the community.

At Toledo Heights Park, the STC Rec Program offered a concession stand accompanied by music and games.

While working the stand Ashley Raue said they had a pretty steady crowd all night and hoped it could be “an annual thing.”

All proceeds went to the program and their efforts.

As the night rolled on the Toledo and Tama fire departments prepared for their annual joint effort firework display out at Toledo Heights. As they prepared to fill the night sky with color a dark storm cloud had the same intention. With whistling winds and plenty of power, the area experienced a bit of rain before subsiding. Shortly after dusk the firework display went on as planned.

It was a true celebration of the United States and our awesome independence.

Multiple local officers could be seen patrolling the streets on the fourth. Some even participated in baseball games with several young people. PHOTO BY JONATHAN MEYER
