Toledo woman charged with embezzling over $200,000

LeAnn Rouse

LeAnn Marie Rouse, 47, of Toledo has been charged with nine counts of theft in the first degree and one count of ongoing criminal conduct.

Rouse allegedly stole $236,994.30 from Siemens Trucking where she was the bookkeeper for 20 years. Siemens Trucking is owned by Steven Siemens and located in Traer.

Rouse was arrested Thursday, Nov. 12 after a warrant had been issued.

Starting October 2016, Rouse allegedly began embezzling money from Siemens’ business accounts according to a Tama County Sheriff’s report. The activity continued until the theft was discovered in August 2020.

According to court documents, Siemens was notified by a Farmers Savings Bank employee that believed Rouse was stealing from him. Bank documentation was also provided by John Schuller who works for Green Belt Bank in Grundy Center. Bank documentation showed Rouse writing and depositing checks to herself. Court records show Rouse deleted checks from the books in attempts to hide the crime.

Rouse was terminated from Siemens Trucking Aug. 20. Charges were filed on Oct. 9 and a warrant requested for her arrest.

An investigation into the incident began Aug. 19 and was conducted by Detective Trevor Killlian of the Tama County Sheriff’s Department.

Rouse was released Nov. 13 until a trial date is set.
