The Wieting Theatre Guild is proud to announce that the classic play, Our Town, by Thornton Wilder has been chosen to be the first community theatre production in a very long time to grace the boards at the Wieting Theatre this July, 11, 12, and 13, Thursday through Saturday. Try-Outs will be held at the Wieting Theatre Sunday, May 5, 1:00 -4:00 p.m.; Monday, May 5 -6:30- 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday, May 8, 6:30-9:00 p.m. If none of these times work for you, please feel free to contact Mary Fasse-Shaw, the director, at 641-751-5251 or at thespan@iowatelecom.net Try-outs are open, and all are welcome. There are leads and many, many smaller parts. Many jobs behind the stage and behind the scenes are available as well.

Those who are interested in back stage or behind the scenes work, please drop in during any of those try-out times and fill out an informational sheet. There will be a copy of the play at the Toledo Library, the Tama Library, and the high school. These copies MAY NOT be taken out of those libraries but MAY BE read there. A scene sheet for try-outs will be available to look at those libraries as well.

Our Town won the Pulitzer Prize in 1938 and has a timeless theme. The story is set in 1901-1913 in the small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” “Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre die.
