The Wieting Theatre is excited to once again be hosting Dancers in Company. The show will be Sunday, April 3rd at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the door: Adults $12 Students $6. A masters’ class is taking place at 11 am for students 3rd grade and up. The class costs $15 and includes 1 student ticket to the show. Registration is limited. The University of Iowa’s premiere touring repertory company, Dancers In Company, has announced the spring 2015 Midwest tour dates. The company of twelve dancers, including undergraduate and graduate students, under the direction of UI Dance Faculty Jessica Anthony and Michael Sakamoto, tours throughout Iowa and the Midwest from March to June each year performing live concerts and lecture demonstrations for audiences of all ages.

The Dancers In Company tour is produced by Arts Share, which continues the UI’s long tradition of sharing creative resources from the Division of Performing Arts (Music, Dance, and Theatre), the School of Art and Art History, and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Arts Share’s goal is to strengthen the arts in under served areas, reaching out to provide access to life-enriching arts experiences throughout Iowa.

Arts Share is part of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and also receives support from the UI Graduate College. This year’s tour is made possible in part by funding from UI’s Office of Outreach and Engagement. Arts Share brings UI artists and writers out into communities to share their talents. Workshops, interactive performances, and residencies take place in K-12 schools, museums, libraries, hospitals, community colleges, universities, and other venues. More than 300 events are programmed each year.

This year’s Dancers in Company repertoire features choreography by UI Dance Faculty Jessica Anthony, Eloy Barragan, Michael Sakamoto, Armando Duarte, Kristin Marrs, Jennifer Kayle, Waedow Sirisook, in addition to guest artist Rennie Harris. Dancers in the 2015 company this year include:

Katarina Akridge, Dot Armstrong, Erin Durian, Julie Feracota, Justin Gorgone, Hannah Gross, Margo Korn, Andrea Larabee, Zoe Maish, Brooke Robinson, and Allegra Sweeney.

Now in its 32nd year, Dancers in Company continues to maintain and build new connections with a variety of community partners across Iowa. Working with a social theme for the first time this year, they are hoping to deepen their levels of community and social engagement by using dance as the medium to start conversations, prompt personal reflection and support learning about water. Necessary for life, the right to clean and affordable water for consumption, utility and commercial use for all people is an issue impacting our local, national and globa communities. In addition, the year-long process fosters the development of the undergraduate company members as artist activists and educators as they engage with the potential for dance and the dance artist to create work that addresses issues of social significance and justice. They will work with DIC directors to develop and facilitate outreach initiatives and experiences that will partner with our concert performances and engage the diverse audiences for whom we will perform.

This year Dancers In Company will be taking their show to the Iowa City Public Library, the Figge Museum in Davenport, The Dubuque Museum of Art, the Wieting Theatre in Toledo, as well as elementary schools in Iowa City, Des Moines, Ottumwa, to name a few. The tour will end in a waterfront symposium at the Iowa Memorial Union at the end of April.
