Belk – Waterbury wed

Courtney and Clay Waterbury

Courtney Lyn Belk and Clay Alan Waterbury were married in a double ring ceremony August 11, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in De Witt, Iowa with Deacon Mark Comer officiating. A wedding reception and dance followed at the Timber Center in Maquoketa.

The bride is the daughter of Ken and Janel Belk of Bettendorf, Iowa. Grandparents are Jim and Rosa Belk of Long Grove, and Marilyn Whitaker of Eldridge and the late Joanne Belk of Long Grove and the late Richard Whitaker of Moline, Illinois.

The groom is the son of David Sherwood and Ellen Waterbury and the late Steve Waterbury of Chelsea, Iowa. His grandparents are Ellen Waterbury and the late Joe Waterbury of Fairfield, Iowa. The late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kaufman of Chelsea, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Sherwood of Belle Plaine, Iowa.

The bride was escorted by her father. She wore an ivory satin mermaid style gown. She carried a bouquet adorned with memorial photo lockets or her brother and grandparents.

The maid of honor was Taylor Belk of Bettendorf, Iowa, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Mallory Till of Bettendorf, Taylor Smola of Wisconsin, Calyn Thompson of Minnesota, Hannah Whitty of Indiana, and Hannah Daniel of Des Moines, all friends of the bride. They wore long chiffon blue dresses with double beaded straps. The flower girls were Maddy Lung and Nicole Gensley, cousins of the bride and groom, wearing matching ivory dresses.

The best man was Levi Kaufman of Tama, Iowa, cousin of the groom. Groomsmen were Jose Fonseca of Tama, Noah Bearden of Michigan, Sam Kuhter of Nebraska, Ryan King of Waterloo, and Justin Livingston of Ely, all friends of the groom. Ushers were Chase Kaufman and Wyatt Kaufman, cousins of the groom and Mike Lincoln and Seth Hestness, friends of the groom. The ring bearer was Cael Kaufman, cousin of the groom.

The bride is a 2013 Bettendorf High School graduate and the groom is a 2013 South Tama County High School graduate and both the bride and groom graduated from Wartburg College with degrees in Education and are teaching at Central De Witt. Courtney is teaching 8th grade history and Clay is teaching high school sciences and both are coaching multiple sports.

With coaching well under way for the fall sports season, the couple will take a honeymoon at a later date. The couple resides in De Witt, Iowa.
