MONTEZUMA- In February of 2017 the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Major Crime Unit in reference to the discovery of misappropriated funds at the sheriff’s office.

As a result of an investigation conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa State Auditor’s Office, Megan Lynne Strong, a former clerk of the sheriff’s office was charged with Theft 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony.

Strong is suspected of taking between $4,000-$4,500 in cash receipts from the sheriff’s office. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office has been asked to assist with the prosecution of Strong.
