MONTEZUMA — STC sophomore Max Schirmer won his second cross country race in as many meets on Thursday, Oct. 8, when he took the crown at the annual Montezuma Invitational. Running a personal-best time of 17:30, Schirmer crossed the finish line an impressive 24 seconds ahead of the second place runner–North Mahaska sophomore Zach Veiseth.

Following Schirmer, other Trojan finishers included: junior Henri Martinez-Alvarado (12th, 18:34, personal-best); sophomore Kyler Johnson-Whitefish (17th, 18:59, personal-best); sophomore Nolan Arp (33rd, 19:56, personal-best); sophomore Riley Stubbs (44th, 20:53, season-best); junior Jonathan Lambert (52nd, 21:42, personal-best); and senior Lane Feisel (75th, 24:01, personal-best).

The STC boys team finished in third place (101 points) behind BGM (75) and champion Albia (72). The third place finish snapped a 9-year boys team-championship streak for STC at Montezuma.

For the girls, 8th grader Adalyn Graff once again led the way for the Trojans. Graff finished in 22nd place, with a personal-best time of 24:21. Senior Livia Smith finished in 39th place (26:32, season-best), followed by freshman Katelynne Brant (40th place, 26:38, personal-best).

The Trojans will now turn their attention to their postseason meets. STC traveled to Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, Oct. 14, to run at the annual WaMaC conference meet. Results were not known by press time this last week. Following that, STC will head to their Class 3A state qualifying meet, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 21 (location to be announced). Senior cross country runners Smith and Feisel will be honored at the STC home football game on Friday night, Oct. 16.
