Warriors run at Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG — The Meskwaki Settlement School’s cross country team traveled to Williamsburg on Tuesday, Sept. 29, to run at the Williamsburg Invitational. With over 200 runners in both the girls and boys races, the athletes were broken up into two varsity races — groups ‘A’ and ‘B.’ The Warriors competed in group ‘B’ and were paced by a 5th place finish in the boys race by freshman Jesse Bear, who finished with a time of 18:29. In Bear’s first four races in his freshman campaign, he placed in the top 10 in each meet (9th, 7th, 7th, 5th).
Other runners for the boys included junior Jaymison Hill (34th, 20:30); junior Jarvis Bear (47th, 21:05); freshman Ryson Davenport (70th, 23:02); sophomore Roman Tricky (92nd, 25:51); sophomore Abram Wanatee (97th, 27:07); sophomore Markelle Wabaunasee (99th, 27:43); and junior Izik Furcap (105th, 28:47).
The MSS boys finished in 7th place as a team in the group ‘B’ race.
For the Warrior girls, sophomore Bree Scabbyrobe (23:27) once again led the way with a 20th place finish. She was followed by: freshman Jayla Keahna (39th, 26:02); freshman Jaslynn Hill (46th, 26:28); sophomore Martha Blackcloud (73rd, 32:21); and junior Kaelonna Kahler (75th, 32:59).
The MSS girls finished in 11th place as a team in the group ‘B’ race.
Up next for the MSS runners is the annual Iowa Star Conference meet on Thursday, Oct. 15. This year’s race will be held at the Wartburg Max Prep course in Waverly. Following that, the Warriors will compete at their Class 1A state-qualifying meet on Thursday, Oct. 22 (location to be announced).
