AMES — After a stellar sophomore track and field campaign, STC’s Scout Ridout is keeping up her running this summer. As a part of the MVP Track Club, Ridout has joined other athletes (mainly from the Des Moines area) who are competing throughout the summer at both USA and AAU track and field meets.
Their most recent competition was the 2026 USA-Track and Field Junior Olympic Championships on June 20-21 at the Cyclone Sports Complex in Ames. Ridout, a junior-to-be, turned in a solid performance against top talent from across the state.
The highlight of her weekend was a championship run in the 100 hurdles. Competing in the 15-16 division, Ridout crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 15.48. Logan Magnolia’s Tenly Kurth finished in second with a time of 15.73. At the state meet in May, Ridout finished in 3rd place in all of Class 3A with a personal-best time of 14.74.
“I was pretty happy with my placings,” Ridout said after the meet, “but was a little disappointed with my times. However, going into the meet I thought my times would not be as good as they were at the state meet because I had so much time off.”
Ridout also participated in the open 100 and 200 in Ames. Running a time of 13.35, she finished in 3rd place in the 100 behind Gilbert’s Madeline Olswing (13.14) and Ankeny Centennial’s Siena Peddicord (13.30). In the 200, Ridout came in fifth place with a time of 27.71. Ridout also ran both events at the state meet in May.
All-in-all, it was a great start to the summer running schedule for Ridout, who expressed goals for the meet that were all met.
“My hopes and goals for the weekend were to compete well, and make it to the finals in all my events,” she said.
