The STC boys and girls golf teams both held their first official competition of the season on Friday, April 10, when they hosted North Tama at the Tama/Toledo Country Club. Previously, both teams have had meets cancelled in the first two rainy weeks of April. But head coaches George Kuhter (boys) and Deanna Zmolek (girls) were finally able to get their squads into competition against the Redhawks.

The girls sent three athletes out onto the course: junior Taylor Dolezal, senior Ella Kospa, and freshman Kendra Svacina. Dolezal was a medalist for the Trojans, finishing with a score of 47 on the day. Dolezal is a returning state qualifier for STC. There were no team scores kept against North Tama.

The boys’ team had 11 athletes competing: senior Garrett Surman; juniors Michael Henry, Ayden Wobeter, and Lane Feisel; sophomores Luke Schlabaugh and Brenden Weitzell; and freshman Grant Dolezal, Dalton Surman, Markus Denny, Orian Armstrong, and Kyler Yuska.

Wobeter led the way for the Trojans, finishing as a medalist by shooting a 37. Henry took runner up with a score of 39. STC as a team won the meet by a score of 173-186 over the Redhawks.

Up next for both the boys golf team will be the West Marshall Invite on Monday, April 20, at the Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center. On the same date, April 20, the girls team will host East Marshall and Clear Creek Amana at the Tama/Toledo Country Club. The girls will then travel to State Center to compete at the West Marshall Invite on Tuesday, April 21.
