STC JV baseball secures first win of the season
The STC junior varsity baseball team earned its first win of the season on Monday, June 9 when they defeated the Union Knights 11-1 in five innings.
Sophomore Michael Henry shined for the Trojans. Henry drew the pitching assignment and he went all five innings, allowing only one hit and one run. Along the way, he struck out 11 Knights and gave up only one walk.
Offensively, the Trojans benefitted from nine walks by Union pitching. STC added five hits in the game. Henry went 1-1 with two walks, two runs scored and three stolen bases. The Trojans also picked up hits from freshman Jonas Sheetz and incoming freshmen Jet Chyma and Braxton White. Brayden Wiese, an incoming freshman, also had an impressive day on the offensive side. He doubled to go 1-1 at the plate, with three runs scored, one stolen base and two walks. Freshman Logan Graff and incoming freshman Grant Dolezal both added two runs scored for STC.
Trojan head coach Dave Nitz was pleased with the effort of the team.
“The kids played a much improved game,” he said. “Our base running was aggressive and the boys played a very solid defensive game — not giving up any errors.”
Next up for the JV baseball team is a home game against Williamsburg on June 26. The game will begin at 5 p.m. at the STC high school baseball field.
