NEWS CHRONICLE FILE PHOTO — STC junior running back Eric Medina received 2nd team all-state recognition.
STC junior running back Eric Medina was honored recently by being placed on the Class 2A, all-state football team. Released on November 30th by Iowa Grandstand Sports (formerly Iowa Prep Illustrated), Medina earned a spot on the 2nd team offense. Medina was one of six running backs honored in all of class 2A, with three rushers placed on both the first and second teams.
This fall, Medina helped lead the Trojans to a 5-4 record, a third place finish in their district, and a bid in the class 2A playoffs. Medina paced STC in carries, rushing yards, yards-per-carry, and touchdowns scored. Medina’s 2025 season had historical significance in the Trojan football program, as well. His 186 carries are the most since Jerry Lowe in 2015 (213). His 1,145 rushing yards are the third highest in the last 10 seasons (Lowe: 1,633 in 2015; Payton Vest: 1,276 in 2020). Medina’s 6.2 yards per carry ranks fourth in the last 10 years, and his 13 touchdowns are tied for second in the last decade (Lowe: 25 in 2015; Vest: 13 in 2020).
STC’s Class 2A, District 7 was well represented on the two all-state teams, making it one of the toughest all-around districts in the state this past season. Athletes from PCM (3), STC (1), Centerville (1), and Pella Christian (1) all received recognition.
