STC girls wrestling finishes 4th at Dan Gable Donnybrook

CORALVILLE — In their third wrestling action of the season, the STC girls traveled to Iowa City to compete against some of the state’s best individuals and teams. On Dec. 4-5, the Trojans participated in the Dan Gable Donnybrook wrestling invite at the Xtreme Arena in Coralville. In a field of 47 teams, STC came home with a strong 4th place finish.

The Trojans were led by a 2nd place finish from junior Kinley Jimenez (235 lbs). Jimenez won three matches before taking on Alexis Stinson of Iowa City Liberty in the championship match.

Stinson won by fall at the 1:48 mark, but Jimenez’s runner-up place earned STC a meet-high 46 team points.

STC also earned top-ten finishes from an impressive seven wrestlers. Senior Autumn Elsbury finished in 4th place (170 lbs.); sophomore Maylee Rucker earned 5th place (140 lbs.); sophomore Jayva Gomez finished in 6th place (110 lbs.); junior Ioleta Kingbird finished in 7th place (190 lbs.); junior Brooklyn Mitchell earned 9th place (130 lbs.); junior Ava Perkins finished in 9th place (135 lbs.); and senior Ava Hendricks finished in 10th place (115 lbs.).

Rounding out the team scoring was: junior Paisley Bro at 145 lbs. (11th place); junior Keylee Holloway at 125 lbs. (11th place), and junior Livia Smith at 100 lbs. (17th place).

The Trojans finished in 4th place with 315 total team points. Raccoon River-Northwest won the invite with 381.5 points. They were followed by Basehor-Linwood (320.5) and Cedar Rapids Prairie (318).

Up next for the STC girls wrestlers is the Vinton-Shellsburg Invite on Saturday, Dec. 13 in Vinton. This will be followed by their trip to Cedar Rapids for the Prairie Girls Invite on Saturday, Dec. 20.
