STC’s Tyynismaa just misses medal in 200
DES MOINES — Before the afternoon rains swept through Drake Stadium, JoJo Tyynismaa and South Tama County took to the track Thursday in the first day of the co-ed state meet.
Tyynismaa ran two of her four scheduled events — the 200-yard dash preliminaries and the 100 dash preliminaries.
In the 200, the junior nearly medaled — finishing ninth and missing out by eight one-hundredths of a second with her time of 26.51 seconds.
She had a tougher go of it in the 100 dash, slowing towards the end and finishing up 23rd in a time of 13.52. Tyynismaa runs the 100 and 400 hurdles Friday morning.
The boys’ 4Ö800 relay finished 14th in the event finals, running an 8:22.46 and competing well in their heat.
Payton Vest and Eli Keahna compete Friday for the Trojans in the long jump and shot put, respectively.
