Meskwaki girls, boys split with West Marshall

Meskwaki Settlement School (12-5) hosted West Marshall (12-6) for a girl/boy non-conference double header on Monday, February 4.
Class 1A Meskwaki Warriors (12-5) defeated Class 2A West Marshall (12-6) on Senior Night courtesy of a go-ahead three point play from senior Tate’ Bear. Bear finished with 29 points and also became the all-time leading scorer for the Meskwaki Warriors. This puts Bear’s career total at 1302 points and counting.
The previous career scoring leader for the Warriors boys team was Jaruis Bear (Class of 2018) with a total of 1291 points.
The night went into overtime and the Warriors pulled out the 71-70 victory.
Bear also finished the night with 10 rebounds. Bear and Noah Seymour were the two seniors honored from the boys basketball team. Seymour finished the night with 10 points.

The MSS girls fell to West Marshall 56-33. Starting for the Lady Warriors were Marley Whitefish, Leticia Garcia, Abigail Iron Shell, Danielle Seymour and Tori Lasley.
The West Marshall girls were ranked by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union up until the most recent IGHSAU rankings were released.
Payton Tahahwah led the Lady Warriors with 12 points with Deandra Navarro right behind her with 11 points.
MSS senior Tori Lasley totaled 6 blocks on the night. Lasley currently ranks fourth in all of Class 1A with 70 blocks on the season. Earlier this season, Lasley broke the MSS career blocks record, which was previously held by Grace Tahahwah (2017) who finished her career with 154. So far Lasley has amassed 171 career blocks in her four seasons with the Warriors.
Seniors honored from the Lady Warriors bench included Marley Whitefish, Leticia Garcia, Abigail Iron Shell, Danielle Seymour and Tori Lasley.
