Center Point-Urbana’s Stormin Pointers remain undefeated after their recent contest at South Tama. The Trojans hosted CPU on Tuesday, April 17, falling 2-0.
The two WaMaC teams were locked in a defensive battle until halfway through the first period of play. South Tama was issued a penalty which set up the Pointers for a penalty kick. The attempt was good and put the Pointers on the board 1-0.
Cracking the scoreboard allowed the Pointers to take a collective deep breath and doing so really opened up their offense throughout the rest of the evening. While the Pointers only scored one more goal, they were much more aggressive on offense following that penalty shot.
CPU’s second goal came midway through the second half. The shot was set up by a corner kick. Despite the two goals allowed, STC keeper Jake Wilkerson did a good job deflecting the rest of the Pointers’ shot attempts.
CPU’s Brandon Dreier and Owen Miller led their team with a goal apiece. Dreier is CPU’s leading scorer.

The Trojans have experienced leaders in their back field in Daniel Ochoa and Mario Moncada but are quite young in the front line. Diego Gutierrez is a freshman for the Trojans and is often faced with competition that is bigger and faster than he is.
The Trojans played tough though and even had a last chance effort to get on the board. Jaime Angel drove down the field as the final seconds ticked off the clock and fired a shot that just missed the goal.
