Just Jonathan: October Surprise

Jonathan Meyer.

Do you ever think about how serious the opinion page of the newspaper gets in October during an election year? As I looked through the newspaper folder before writing this column, I was suddenly given a burst of inspiration for what I should write about. Today’s column is about nothing serious. The purpose of writing this is to take your mind away from serious decision-making that you need to do in the near future.

With most awkward distractions, I’ll start with the weather. Isn’t it nice outside? Have you seen all the leaves starting to fall? How about that frost we got earlier in the week? Fall really is my favorite time of year, I love how the temperature drops and I can sleep cool at night, but still have the potential for 70 degree afternoons. Truly the best of both worlds.

Another good distraction is talking about controversial topics. That damn roundabout, if they would’ve listened to how I would have it done the project would’ve been finished in April! And don’t get me started on 63, what are they even doing out there? The two guaranteed things about Iowa are corn and road construction.

Pivoting from controversial, let’s go to something we can all agree on, the dang E-scooters. You know my opinion if you’re an avid reader, let’s be honest nothing will happen to them until someone important hits someone.

Intrude Just Jonathan fashion, I’ve distracted you from one annoying thing with something else that also annoys you. Seeing as we’re tight on opinion space this week I’ll leave it there.

Until this election cycle is over, I’m Just Jonathan.
