South Tama varsity girls (11-9) celebrated Senior Night with a 19-point victory over the Independence Mustangs (2-15) on Tuesday, January 31. South Tama defeated Independence 62-43.

The senior quintet of Allison Yuska, Kaitlin Berger, Abby Llewellyn, Minnie Climer and Shae Slaven started the game for the Trojans.

Indee’s Mary Puffett scored the first points of the night with a three-point shot. The Trojans quickly responded with an unanswered 15-point scoring streak. The Mustangs struggled to protect the ball. Between their lack of ball control and the Trojans defense forcing turnovers, STC wreaked havoc upon the Mustangs all night. STC pushed their lead to 21-7 in the first quarter and by halftime the Trojans were up 31-15. The Mustangs put together an improved effort in the second half, scoring 28 points. Their efforts however, weren’t enough to close the gap between them and the Trojans. Several reserve players saw action late in the game including Kelsie York-Morris, Sadie Smith and Taylor Ray.

Jessica Musgrave led the Trojans with 25 points which included a half court shot to round out the first quarter. Each of the seniors made their mark on the box score as well. Climer was the second leading scorer for the Trojans with 11 points, Llewellyn and Berger finished 7 and Slaven had one point. Yuska snagged three rebounds.

South Tama will be hosting Williamsburg for the first round of post season play on Saturday, February 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
