Trojans send 5 wrestlers to final round, have four champions

South Tama travelled to Ankeny on Saturday, January 14 for the annual Bob Sharp Invitational.

Teams in attendance included Algona, Ankeny, Ankeny Centennial, Des Moines Lincoln, Des Moines Roosevelt, Mason City, Norwalk, Oskaloosa, Sioux City East and South Tama.

STC remains open in weights 106, 113, and 120. Wrestling for the Trojans on Saturday were Brady Fritz (126), Tanner Probasco (132), Colton Vest (138), Pedro Rodriguez (145), Isaac Judge (152), Josh Thiessen (160), Aiden Waseskuk (170), Dalton Rosenburg (182), Cael Kellogg (195), Mario Moncada (220) and Kyle Kucera (Hwt.).

The Trojans sent five wrestlers through to the final championship rounds: Brady Fritz (126), Tanner Probasco (132), Colton Vest (138), Isaac Judge (152) and Dalton Rosenburg (182). Another highlight for the Trojans was Tanner Probasco’s 100th career win. Probasco defeated Tom Reichenbacker of Ankeny by major decision (13-3) for the milestone win.

“It feels pretty good, it’s been a long time coming but today I didn’t wrestle my best but you always have those days,” said Probasco.

Probasco is a State qualifying wrestler who is gearing up for the post season.

“Midway through the season I?feel like I am farther ahead than I was last season but I still gotta fine tune things and be ready for post season,” said Probasco.

After a full day of wrestling South Tama took 2nd place in team scores to Ankeny Centennial. Team results: 1. Ankeny Centennial 194, 2. South Tama 175.5, 3. Des Moines Lincoln 165, 4. Mason City 159, 5. Ankeny 150, 6. Algona 132, 7. Oskaloosa 129, 8. Norwalk 126.5, 9. Sioux City East 58, 10. Des Moines Roosevelt 43.

Individual STC Results had Brady Fritz finishing 1st at 126, Tanner Probasco finished 1st at 132, Colton Vest finishing 1st at 138, Pedro Rodriguez finishing 6th at 145, Isaac Judge finishing 1st at 152, Josh Thiessen finishing 3rd at 160, Dalton Rosenburg finished 2nd at 182, Mario Moncada finishing 5th at 220 and Kyle Kucera finishing 6th at 285.
