Now, please take a moment and seriously ponder that question. If you could bask in just one month of any year, enjoying every single day of that month, which one would it be? Would it be a month with a special holiday in it, such as Christmas, 4th of July, Valentine’s Day or perhaps Halloween? Or maybe it would be the month in which your birthday is in? Or your wedding? Perhaps you might pick a special month because you have a special season of the year you enjoy the most. In fact, a secondary question might be—what’s your favorite season of the year? My, my, one could almost put down those cell phones for a minute or two and have a conversation with someone.

Is October your favorite? Is it close to the top or lingering down towards the bottom. It’s the beginning of Fall, which could register high on your “likeability” list, but then again, maybe not because you realize an Iowa winter is lurking just around the corner. But for many, winter is your favorite season. Who knows, right? But let’s stick to the month of October since were just coming into it right now. Here are some favorite October dates:

October 3 is Captain Kangaroo’s birthday. Exciting start now!! Have no idea when Mr. Greenjean’s birthday is or was.

October 4 has declared this day to be National Cinnamon Roll day, Golf lovers day, Taco day, Vodka day and even National Smile all day long day!

October 6 is National Flufffernutter’s day! Do you know what a “fluffernutter” is? No googling. I’ll let you know later. The 6th of October is also National Hero’s Day. How about thanking the Veteran today. They’re real heroes.

Does anyone remember watching American Bandstand on Saturday mornings? It’s debut was October 7, 1957.

October 9 is beer & pizza day. For some, isn’t this simply every day?

October 12 is National Farmer’s Day. Farmers are the backbone of America. Thanking them would be a great idea also.

October 16 is National Bosses Day. It’s up to you on this one about thanking your boss. It’s also “Take Your Parents Out to Lunch” Day. Wonder if any of my kids are reading this? Probably not!!!!

National Bologna day is October 24. Did any of you love to eat a fried bologna sandwich? Mmmmm, with a little mustard!!!

Here’s a great one: “Make a Difference” day is October 26. Highlight this one and really go out of your way and make a difference in someone’s life. Tip that waitress extra today!!!

And last but certainly not least is National “Mother-in-Law” day on October 27. Wonder if Ben or Bryan has any plans for you Deb?

So, what’s your favorite season of the year and what’s your favorite month? I’m a little torn because I love October which includes the World Series and my birthday on October 21 (hint, hint), and I love the fall colors but those doggone Iowa winters seem to get harder and colder as I get older and older. But it is my birthday month.

Did I forget to tell you that it’s Monday, October 21? Oh, before I forget, the “fluffernutter.” It’s part marshmallow fluff, part nut butter. Specifically, it’s a kid-favorite sandwich with a filling of peanut butter and marshmallow creme. It’s soft, gooey and a delightful blend of sweet and salty flavors. But not as good as a fried bologna sandwich!!
