Toledo Farmers Market
Dawn Troutner Toledo Market Master
Market Report for August 28, 2015
Oh what a night, late August 2015. It had rained all day off and on. Then there looked like there was going to be a break in the rain for the Toledo Farmers Market. So like busy little ants the ten vendors set up there tents and tables filling them with produce, bakery, and items to purchase. Kristi’s table had breads, cookies, bars, pies, rolicky twisty tomatoes, and Bohemie plums. Cindy had tomatoes, taters, onions, watermelons, and Rod to help take down the tents in the rain. Darold put up his umbrella with tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, peppers, sunflower heads, and summer squash under it. Shirley, Michael, and Freddie had rolicky, kolaches, and buchty. Chuck and Ginger were under there red maple tree with pies, cookies, breads, kolaches, concord grapes, egg plant, okra, honey, taters, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, onions and Iowa State fair ribbon winning popcorn. Dawn had fresh herbs, jams, reserve champion popcorn, beets, leeks, tomatoes, edamame, spaghetti squash, taters, rosettes, houseplants, rhubarb, and cabbage. Lois, Brenda, Ethan, and Marie had cucumbers, green beans, tomatoes, and summer squash. Barb and Joe brought peppers, squash, taters, Watkins products, breads, and jam. Karen had her soy candles and soy products. And holding up the market on the North end was Will with his cucumbers, tomatoes, soaps, candles, green beans, and delicious cantaloupe.
As a very boisterous customer went up and down the market wanting to know if the market was going to start early, the market manager happily waited until all the vendors had their items out, and then blew the whistle with the sound of rain coming down. It was a fast market with customers zipping by. Then the rain came faster and stronger The sound of thunder had the vendors scampering to put their items away before everything would get wet. Well, needless to say, a few vendors didn’t make it. Table cloths were soaked; tents were shaking in the wind with rain blowing off them. But the market vendor family stuck around to help each other get their items put away and tents taken down. With each blast of rain another tent went down till the vendors were soaking wet also.
Oh what a night in late August 2015. Thanks to the vendors that braved the rain to be there for their customers. Thanks to the customers that came out to purchase their weekly items. And THANKS to the great bunch of vendors we have at the Toledo Farmers Market who made sure each and every vendor was packed up and heading home. We have a great little market in Toledo, don’t we?
If you were unable to come this week, there are nine weeks left of the Toledo Farmers Market. See you there.
