May is Beef Month!

Driving across Iowa, do you ever hear, “look, there’s a cow!”? I’m sure it happens often with 19,677 farms raising beef cows in the state.

The Kubik family has raised beef cattle for many generations. After college, my husband Alex bought 5 bred cows of his own. For Christmas the following year, he said my present was in the barn. To my surprise he had gotten me a heifer calf! You see, my family’s farm didn’t have cattle, so this was finally the first cow that I could call my own! Since then, my husband and I have grown our herd to 25 cows.

Currently we both work off-farm jobs and get the opportunity to come home to the farm to start our “second full-time jobs” each day. Caring for the cattle is hard work, but also very rewarding. At the end of the day we enjoy spending time with the cattle and being a part of producing quality, nutritious, and delicious beef for other Iowa families like ours.

So grab some delicious burgers and steaks to kick off summer and help us celebrate Beef Month!
