In this year’s city and school elections, 2,679 ballots were cast in Tama County out of 8,976 registered voters.

In the race for Tama City Council incumbent, Kristy Eisentrager received 118 to retain her seat. The second seat was taken by newcomer Chris Smith, receiving 115 votes to edge out Elaina Rivera Martinez with 101 votes.

Toledo City Council (Vote for 3)

Incumbents Cathy Cook and Duane Pansegrau held their seats with 131 and 127 votes respectively. While former Tama Mayor Doug Ray won the final open seat with 127 votes.

Running unopposed, Brian Sokol was elected to another term as Toledo Mayor. Sokol received 138 votes.

South Tama School Board District 1

Incumbent board president Elizabeth Dolezal defeated challenger Angie Bair with 313 votes to Bair’s 220 votes.

South Tama School Board District 4

With incumbent Beth Wiese choosing not to seek reelection and no candidates filing for the District 4 seat, the outcome will rely on write-in votes. If one person receives the most write-ins and accepts the position, they’ll be sworn in after the county canvass of election results. If no clear winner emerges, or if the leading write-in declines to serve, the seat will be considered vacant. In that case, the South Tama County School Board would be required to publish notice of its intent to appoint someone within 30 days, unless district voters petition for a special election. 95 Write-Ins were reported on Nov. 4 and await tabulation.

South Tama School Board District 2

Running unopposed, Joe Hanus secured his seat with 480 votes. This comes after Hanus was appointed to fill a vacant seat after the resignation of Jackie Ellenbecker.

Iowa Valley Community College District 6

Running uncontested, Joanna Hofer received 481 votes to secure another term.
