TOLEDO – Tama County needs a new zoning and planning administrator.

On Monday during the regular weekly meeting, the Tama County Board of Supervisors accepted Marshall County’s termination of the two counties’ shared zoning contract.

Last fall the counties entered into a 28E agreement for the shared services of zoning director and weed commissioner – a combined position that was subsequently filled with the hire of Taveis Stevens.

During Monday’s meeting, the supervisors acknowledged the termination with regret. Tama County Auditor Laura Kopsa told the newspaper that while the position will need to be rehired, the supervisors are not certain if the position will stay as one or move to two separate positions.

Engineer’s report

As part of his report, Tama County Engineer Ben Daleske told the supervisors a culvert is being replaced on 270th Street due to a hole forming in it. The road should be open by the end of the week.

As of last week, most of the county’s stockpile of rock in Traer has now been depleted. Secondary Roads staff have been out blading and putting down rock.

Secondary Roads demoed a road groomer last week. Daleske said he would like to purchase one for the county.

A pre-construction meeting has been set for mid-April for two culvert projects on 220th Street and P Avenue. Construction is slated to begin in May.

Daleske presented the supervisors with the county’s five year construction program and DOT budget for approval. Not much has changed, he noted, to the five year plan other than adding a paving project in 2028 and moving several bridge projects around.

Other business

Tama County HR Manager Tammy Wise did not provide a report to the supervisors as scheduled as she was out of the office.

The supervisors declared the week of April 14-20 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Tama County in honor of the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep our communities and citizens safe. The proclamation was brought to the supervisors by the county’s 911 Director, Jeremy Cremeans.

Signatures for Auditor Laura Kopsa, Assistant Auditor Karen Rohrs, and Treasurer Amanda Kriegel were authorized on the opioid account.

Claims totaling $542,294.94 were approved – much of the total was for rock and rock hauling.

During next Monday’s meeting, the supervisors will be recognizing employees for their years of service at 9:45 a.m.
