TAMA-TOLEDO — “The School for Spies” is coming to The Wieting Theatre. This musical is designed for students of all levels of theatre experience. Campers will audition, rehearse and perform a musical alongside three professional teaching artists… in one week. The “School for Spies” is a brand-new production with script by Katie Colletta and music by Jason Sifford.

It’s a new year at the School for Spies, an elite training program for spy recruits, run by the Global Intelligence Agency. But when the powerful Moon Cube goes missing under the GIA’s watch, the school is thrown into turmoil. The mission, should you choose to accept it, is to join a world of secret agents and espionage to crack the case.

The camp is open to 50 students entering second grade and up. Camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 15-19 with the final performance at 7 p.m. on July 19. The cost is $85 per student which includes a camp photo and t-shirt. This is a great opportunity for students to learn theatre skills and perform for families and friends. Some of the skills learned are being comfortable in front of a crowd, vocal projection, stage directions and technical aspects of theatre. Performers learn how to cooperate and work as a team to put on a musical in one week while having fun.

After this experience students usually fall into one of the three groups. The first discover that musical theatre is probably not for them. The second enjoyed the experience and will try out for plays in high school and support the arts in their community as adults. The final group feels that acting is in their blood and will pursue some form of it as a career. Many current thespians began with the Wieting’s Children’s Theatre Camp experience.

Registration forms will be distributed at school, at Tama and Toledo libraries and the Wieting Theatre. Also, interested kids can locate the form at wieting.tamatoledo.com, click on the “about” tab and under summer camps a printable version is available. Only one question remains. Will you join the secret agents to crack the case of the missing Moon Cube?
