Le Grand man faces felony charges after multi-county pursuit

LE GRAND — A Le Grand man is facing a number of felony charges after leading law enforcement on a chase from Marshall County into Tama County — and eventually back into Marshall County last Saturday morning.

At approximately 6 a.m., a Marshall County deputy tried to stop a vehicle near Le Grand for a traffic violation, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. The vehicle fled from the deputy, and a short pursuit ensued.

The vehicle reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour as it entered Montour in Tama County. The Marshall County deputy discontinued the pursuit in Montour after losing sight of the vehicle and started checking around the area for it. A short time later, the Tama Police Department located the vehicle, and another pursuit ensued. Stop Stick tire deflation devices were deployed and successfully deflated two of the fleeing vehicle’s tires.

The vehicle fled back westbound into Marshall County and back into Le Grand. Once there, the vehicle struck a Tama Police Department patrol vehicle before the driver fled from the vehicle on foot and ran inside a residence in Le Grand. Several law enforcement agencies responded to the area. Officers on the scene were able to negotiate with the driver, and he came out of the residence about 30 minutes later and surrendered without further incident.

Jermaine Oden, age 26, of Le Grand was arrested and charged with eluding second or subsequent offense (a Class C felony), assault on person in certain occupations (a Class D felony), second degree criminal mischief (a Class D felony), driving while barred (an aggravated misdemeanor), Speeding 100 mph in a 55 mph zone, a simple misdemeanor, operating a non registered vehicle, a simple misdemeanor, and driving under suspension, a simple misdemeanor.

The MCSO was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, the Marshall County Communications Center, the Meskwaki Nation Police Department, the State Center Police Department, the Tama Police Department, the Tama County Sheriff’s Office and the Toledo Police Department.
