This week’s Toledo City Council Meeting

This week’s Toledo City Council meeting started with a public hearing that yielded no public comments. The public hearing was on the proposed FY27 City Budget. After the public hearing, the council majority approved the budget, with council member Vesely being the one nay.

Kendall Jordan, the City Administrator, spoke on almost every agenda item, starting with water, as a few citizens spoke to the council regarding their water pressure. Jordan explained that the town is on a gravity system with the water tower and that the residents’ pressures were all in normal range. It was approved to keep in touch on the subject.

A public hearing was held on the sale of city property. This is to complete transfers of property from the city to the school.

Jordan spoke on behalf of Salud Sanchez regarding the Toledo Heights Park soccer rental contract. The contract will remain the same and was approved.

The Fire Department was approved to use city equipment to help prepare for the upcoming tractor pull fundraiser in Tama.

It was approved to put up a stop sign on South Broadway and 2nd Avenue due to the current detour.

An emergency declaration was approved to keep semi trucks off of South Broadway and Summit Street. An embargo for those roads will be on the next meeting’s agenda.

The Public Works department reported the completion of the concrete work at the pool; only the lines have to be painted. Mowing will start soon.

Toledo EMS reported 72 runs in March.

The city attorney reported working on nuisance issues.

Toledo Police Chief Dan Quigley reported that the department responded to 159 calls to service between March 23 and April 12, and made four arrests. They are amidst multiple felony investigations. Officer See has finished his training and is out on his own.

Toledo Economic Development Director Katherine Ollendieck reported on all the projects they are working on currently.
